SELF-GUIDED VISIT - Free of charge, koha appreciated
We recommend giving yourself an hour on site: 30 minutes to walk around the Cathedral grounds & 30 minutes in Te Whare Hononga to watch the video and look through the exhibition touch screens. Volunteers are available most days to offer manaakitanga and answer questions. This is a great option for teachers who want to use our site and Te Whare Hononga as a learning resource. Te Whare Hononga is open 9am to 3pm, Monday-Friday, but is occasionally closed for private events so before planning your school please fill out the form below to ensure availability.
HOSTED VISIT - $5 per person
A host will meet you in the courtyard outside Te Whare Hononga for a 10-minute introductory talk to the space, to answer basic questions and point out areas of interest, then will leave you to explore at your own pace. Book your visit below.
GUIDED GROUP TOUR - $15 per person. 10-30 people
This 60-minute guided tour gives an overview of the history connected to Pūkākā Pā, the Land Wars and Taranaki Cathedral. We visit the Settler Gravesite, the Waikato Warriors’ Memorial, and then spend time in Te Whare Hononga viewing the video and exhibition screens. For groups with 10 people minimum - 30 persons maximum. For other group sizes contact us for other options
GUIDED SCHOOL TOUR - $150 per class
A guide will host your school group for 1 hour with age-appropriate history kōrero, activities, animated video and time for Q & A. The tour gives an overview of the history connected to Pūkākā Pā, the Land Wars and Taranaki Cathedral. We gather in the courtyard before visiting the Settler Gravesite, Waikato Warriors’ Memorial, and Te Whare Hononga. Classes are welcome to spend extra time after the tour exploring the site and looking through the exhibition touch screens in Te Whare Hononga. Teachers are encouraged to use our space as a resource to enhance the NZ History Curriculum. If you plan on bringing more than one class or more than 35 students please book two tours or contact us for other options.
